164. Errol Flynn Marina

It’s so nice to be back at Errol Flynn marina; Port Antonio is my favorite town in Jamaica. There are lots of cruisers in the bay, most going southwest, some going east. A huge classic yacht, S/V Germania was on the dock.

S/V Germania
A 2011 replica of a 1908 classic in Port Antonio (the masts are 150 feet tall)
(For sale for $8m)

Backing into its slip
Its main boom was massive

First up was Immigration and Customs, followed by a hot shower, then a beer and some food. Next was laundry, some boat work, fuel and water, lots of cleaning, more provisioning…

There doesn’t seem to be any obvious weather window to Haiti, but Friday/Saturday might work. The problem is its very stormy at the moment, with thunderstorms and rain showers all over the place. It looks like a long, difficult sail to ideally Ile a Vache, but more likely Anse d’Hainault.

163. Sky Fall

Sonic Boom anchored in Oracabessa Bay

I left Ocho Rios, made it to Oracabessa and decided to drop anchor. It was a beautiful little bay and nice and sheltered.

The next day the wind dropped, then non stop heavy thunder showers kept me there for almost a week, with a couple of French yachts also on their way to the Dominican Republic.

On Monday, with still very little wind, I motor sailed to Port Antonio in about 8 hours.

162. GoldenEye

After a few days of relaxation in Ocho Rios over the Easter weekend, I’m ready to set sail again.

Turtle Beach, Ocho Rios

Tomorrow I will head to either Oracabessa, where there’s Ian Flemming’s house GoldenEye, or Port Maria, where there’s Noel Coward’s house Firefly. After that I will sail to Port Antonio; my last stop in Jamaica before sailing to Haiti.
