Trinity are back! And headed to the Pacific. I’m so happy to
see Robert and Kerstin again. Busy for the next few days getting their boat
painted and back in the water, and then we’ll sail away. At last it feels like
I’m getting ready to leave. My last teaching is on Saturday. I’ve still got a
few jobs to do on the boat, but really I just need to stock up on food and
water.

Grenada and Los Testigos are out. Instead I’ll sail straight
to La Blanquilla with Trinity; about 200miles, I’m hoping in about 30 hours. Testigos
is a pirate hot spot, although it seems the whole Venezuelan coast is. There’s
a report out at the moment that the Dutch Coast Guard have given up patrolling around
Curacao because they keep getting attacked.

My strategies for dealing with pirates... I don't really have any. Dane always said
the key is to not let them onboard; once they’ve boarded you’re in serious
trouble. He had an air rifle that looked impressive from a distance. Going round and round in circles, I read, is a good way to make boarding
difficult. I don’t have a flare gun, but I’ve got smoke flares – which I would set off in my boat…
I bumped into a sailor yesterday who had read my article in
Sailing Today!
